Visiting Mora and Rialto Beach

Overview

Rialto Beach is characterized by its rocky shores, massive drift logs, crashing waves, and vistas of the offshore islands known as "seastacks."

The Mora region is only a short distance inland, and it is distinguished by tall trees, thick undergrowth, and the constant roar of the Pacific Ocean.

From La Push Road, take Mora Road south to reach Rialto Beach. Distances from Rialto Beach to Lake Crescent and Port Angeles are respectively 36 and 75 miles (directions).

The park's Mora brochure has a map, details about amenities, picnic spots, camping, and rules and regulations.

Places to Stay

It's about a three-mile trek from the Mora campground to Rialto Beach. During the high season, from the middle of June to the middle of September, reservations are required at Mora Campground (new in 2020). On www.recreation.gov, you can make a reservation up to six months in advance. Mora Campground is a first-come, first-served facility outside of the reservation season. Some circuits are closed during the colder months. Outside of the reservation season, campers can pay for their spots at specially marked registration boards.

Recreation

Hole-in-the- About 1.5 miles north of Rialto Beach in the Olympic wilderness lies a sea arch called Wall.

Access from Rialto Beach to First, Second, and Third Beaches is obstructed by the Quillayute River. First Beach is on the Quileute Indian Reservation, and the two beaches immediately to the south are in Olympic National Park and are part of the Olympic Wilderness Coast.

Before setting off, make sure the tides are favorable. When high tide comes in, it might be dangerous to go along some parts of the coast.

Nearby Areas

It takes less than 30 minutes to get to Forks, the next town. Rialto is a convenient jumping off point for day trips to the Hoh Rain Forest and the southern coast, where you can see places like Ruby Beach and Kalaloch. To find out how far it is to various points inside the park, check out the page dedicated to navigation.
