Nungwi, Tanzania 2023: Best Places to Visit

In all of Africa, Zanzibar is among my top picks for island paradise. All the best of East African culture, cuisine, and beaches are included. Nungwi is the best place on Zanzibar to witness the island's famed aqua beaches.

Nungwi is a popular tourist destination in northern Zanzibar, known for its pristine white beach, luxurious hotels, and stunning blue waters. It is bookended by Kendwa to the south.


I spent five days in Nungwi indulging in the finer things in life, and as a result, I know all there is to know about the city, from where to stay to what to do while you're there.



Where to stay in Nungwi

Nungwi is home to a plethora of lodging options. There are hotels and resorts in Nungwi to suit any traveler's budget, from the most frugal backpackers to those with the most extravagant tastes. Nungwi has evolved into somewhat of a backpacker party central in recent years. For as long as anyone can remember, the resort crowd has called this place home, so it's always fun to see how different kinds of tourists interact in the local watering holes.

Staying at Beach Baby Lodge

Almost all of the better hotels have direct beach access, with guards on duty to keep the beach boys at bay. After much deliberation, I decided to spend five nights at the renowned Beach Baby Lodge. It's not dirt cheap, but it's on the cheaper end of the spectrum.


However, Beach Baby has a great roof deck overlooking the ocean and is situated near the island's northern tip. When the tide is high, I like to eat my lunch while gazing at the ocean's psychedelic hues. The sunsets over Nungwi are world-famous, and Beach Baby Lodge is the best place to watch them.

I like that breakfast is included in the price of my room and that I can get two beers for the price of one during happy hour.

Even though they are on the simpler side, the rooms are fine for one person.

Camps Bay Beach Cape Town, South Africa

 Give us the wide-angle view: what kind of beach are we talking about? Camps Bay, located in Cape Town, is known as the city's "party beach" due to the abundance of bars, restaurants, and hotels along its promenade. Access to Anse Source d’Argent

There is a beach called Anse Source d'Argent on the southwest corner of La Digue Island. It features some of La Digue's most stunning granite boulders as backdrops and gorgeous white beaches that are lapped by shallow emerald waters and shaded by swaying coconut palms. The island also features a vanilla plantation, enormous tortoises, and the most beautiful coconut plantations you've ever seen, home to hundreds of palm trees. Access to Anse Source d’Argent The Union Estate is required to reach Anse Source d'Argent, and it costs 115 Rupees (about US$8) per day, per person, to enter via there.
